King Charles Coronation Party Ideas

King Charles Coronation Party Ideas

This year, King Charles III will be crowned at his Coronation, and just like for the Platinum Jubilee, we will be celebrating across the nation! Over the bank holiday weekend, 6-8th May, there will be loads of events going on, such as live screenings of the coronation and a special concert at Buckingham Palace! If you're hosting your own coronation party, or having a more intimate viewing party, we've shared some tips on how to plan the perfect event!
Decorations

It's all about the red, white and blue! Go for maximum colour to create impact on the day. Union Jack Bunting is an absolute must for any type of event, and a great place to start - hang it from trees or street lights if you're hosting an outdoor event, or hang some Union Jack Flags in your front garden or from the windows!
When it comes to dressing the table, there's loads of fun accessories to get excited about for the big day! Start with a Union Jack Tablecover, and then complete the look with themed toppers, tableware and balloons.
Here at XS, we're going big for the Coronation weekend & have loads of extra special finishing touches to make your event one to remember. Our Union Jack Blanket Throw will keep guests cosy as the night goes on, or if you're short on seating, our Union Jack Picnic Blanket is ideal for street parties with loads of guests, it will provide a cosy & welcoming environment and it's also a lovely keepsake to remember the day by.
Food & Drinks
afternoon tea on a raised platter featuring finger sandwiches and scones with cream and jam
When planning a coronation party, eating like a King should be top of your priority list, and we've got loads of great and cost effective ideas. Afternoon tea style finger sandwiches will look lovely displayed on raised platters, and gives you the opportunity to offer a wide range of fillings - coronation chicken is a must! Other favourites includes quiches, sausage rolls and scotch eggs. Another fun idea to try and it's currently trending is a grazing board. Simply take a large platter or wooden board and arrange your items together in a nice pattern. You can create savoury or dessert grazing boards. There's loads of great ideas online, but most commonly they are created using charcuterie, cheese and dips.
For dessert, an obvious choice would be Victoria sponge cake, or scones with cream and jam, but we personally love chocolate eclairs or coronation themed cupcakes - these are a great opportunity to showcase your cake toppers and make your table more themed.
Make sure to provide some drinks, or you'll find yourself with some unhappy guests! Traditional options include Pimm's or Gin and Tonic, but you could also go all out and offer a glass of bubbles to celebrate the moment. Don't forget there's also loads of non-alcoholic alternatives at the moment that taste just as delicious.
Entertainment

We're all crossing our fingers that the weather will be sunny across the coronation weekend! But incase it's not, we'll share some great options to keep everyone entertained.
Fancy dress is a great way to get your guests in the spirit and make the most of the day. Offer a party hat or headband to your guests, it's a fun addition to the event and it's a great opportunity for Instagram photos later in the day!
Providing plenty of chalk for the little ones is a great idea to keep them entertained throughout the day, ask them to draw pictures on the pavement or patio, or provide paper and ask them to create a special picture to commemorate the day.
It would also be a great idea to organise a serious of competitions - think hula hoops, apple bobbling, juggling or races - make sure you have plenty of prizes on standby and let everyone embrace their competitive side.
We've got a great range of affordable games and puzzles to browse, from Pictionary to Jenga you'll find something everyone can get excited about.
